Real-life adventureman Jamie McDonald has recently annihilated the world record for the longest distance covered while on a treadmill after spending seven days running 524 miles on the gym equipment.
He’s done it!!!— Adventureman (@MrJamieMcDonald) May 6, 2019
Jamie is now the (unofficial, until verified) holder of the @GWR record for the greatest distance covered in 7 days on a treadmill 💪💪💪
As Jamie said when he equalled the record though… records aren’t just there to be broken, they’re there to be SMASHED!!! pic.twitter.com/FCvkdyfyLL
He managed to surpass the previous record by a whopping 11 miles – which is an absolutely incredible feat.
The 32-year-old ran – and walked – more than 20 hours a day to beat the current record of the longest distance covered on a treadmill, which came in at 513.97 miles (827.15km) and was set by Marcio Villar in Brazil in 2015.
Previous record holder Marcio also sent his congratulations to his new successor, saying:
My congratulations for the record, an honour to have my record beaten by a well-deserved good athlete.
Jamie went on to talk about his incredible achievement, saying: “I just want to thank you for being here. I’m a proper Gloucester boy, through and through. You do know what they say about world records? Not just beaten but they have got to be smashed. I’m going to run as far as I can until 1pm. So let’s just have a party.”
